By the time you’ve finished reading through this article, you’ll know everything you need to make the best mac and cheese you’ve ever tasted.

So let’s get started learning!

Tips and Tricks for Making Truffle Mac & Cheese

Follows these simple tips and tricks for making truffle mac and cheese, and you’ll have a delicious entrée or side dish ready and waiting to enjoy in no time.

  • When making cheese sauce from scratch, you’ll almost always need to make a roux to thicken it. Be sure to stir your roux and sauce constantly to keep it from burning, scalding, or getting lumpy or too thick.
  • Choose your cheese wisely! Some recipes call for certain types of cheese like gruyere or chevre, and these shouldn’t be substituted. Others, like white cheddar, can be easily substituted for a different type of cheddar without affecting the recipe.
  • Choose a good-quality truffle oil. Remember that less expensive truffle oils probably aren’t made with real truffles. A high-quality truffle oil should always have pieces of truffles in the bottle to prove that it was made from authentic truffle ingredients.
  • In most cases, even if a recipe specifies black or white truffle oil, the ingredient is interchangeable. The flavors will change, but the texture and the cooking method won’t. Black truffle oil has a richer and more robust flavor, while white truffle oil tastes more like garlic. If you choose to change them around, just remember you will have a different flavor at the end.
